Injectable Procedures
As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crow's feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs.
Soft-tissue fillers, most commonly injectable collagen, Restylane®, JuvedermTM, or fat, can help fill in these lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers plump up creases and sunken areas of the face. They can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Injectable fillers may be used alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as a laser treatment, or a recontouring procedure, such as a facelift.
Soft-tissue fillers are primarily used to improve the appearance of the skin's texture. They can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, "sunken" cheeks, skin depressions and some types of scars. They can also be used to add a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips.
DysportTM
Dysport™ is now approved for treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines (the frown lines between your eyebrows). After Dysport™ is injected into the muscles that control facial expression, the medicine stops the tightening of these muscles for up to 4 months.
Restylane®
Used as a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler, Restylane restores volume and fullness to the skin. It is used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and deep folds, such as those that appear at the nose and continue to the lips. Restylane therapy may last twice as long as collagen, with the average treatment lasting six months or longer and its effects are immediate.
BOTOX®
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a nonsurgical procedure that is commonly used to restore skin to a more youthful appearance, smooth out frown lines, eliminate forehead creases and reverse the presence of scars. This treatment relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines to form. It is safe for all skin types, even sensitive skin.
Fat
In the medical world, the fat-injection procedure is known as autologous fat transplantation or microlipoinjection. It involves extracting fat cells from the patient's abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and reinjecting them beneath the facial skin. Fat is most often used to fill in "sunken" cheeks or laugh lines between the nose and mouth, to correct skin depressions or indentations, to minimize forehead wrinkles and to enhance the lips.
JuvedermTM
This has emerged as the miracle compound filling lines, wrinkles and facial folds. A specially formulated smooth hyaluronic acid gel, Juvederm comes in two concentrations to handle every problem from deep folds to fine lines.
Radiesse®
An FDA-approved injectable filler material. It is gel-like material composed primarily of calcium hydroxylapetite, used to fill in areas of wrinkles or other depressions.
